1 Chronicles 18

1 Some time later, David defeated the Philistines, subdued them, and took Gath and its villages from the hand of the Philistines.

2 David also defeated the Moabites, and they became subject to David and brought him tribute.

3 As far as Hamath, David also defeated King Hadadezer of Zobah, who had marched out to establish his dominion along the Euphrates River.

4 David captured from him a thousand chariots, seven thousand charioteers, and twenty thousand foot soldiers, and he hamstrung all the horses except a hundred he kept for the chariots.

5 When the Arameans of Damascus came to help King Hadadezer of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand of their men.

6 Then he placed garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to David and brought him tribute. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.

7 And David took the gold shields that belonged to the officers of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.

8 And from Tibhath and Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took a large amount of bronze, with which Solomon made the bronze Sea, the pillars, and various bronze articles.

9 When King Tou of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer king of Zobah,

10 he sent his son Hadoram to greet King David and bless him for fighting and defeating Hadadezer, who had been at war with Tou. Hadoram brought all kinds of articles of gold and silver and bronze,

11 and King David dedicated these to the LORD, along with the silver and gold he had carried off from all these nations—from Edom and Moab, and from the Ammonites, Philistines, and Amalekites.

12 Moreover, Abishai son of Zeruiah struck down eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.

13 He placed garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites were subject to David. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.

14 Thus David reigned over all Israel and administered justice and righteousness for all his people:

15 Joab son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was the recorder;

16 Zadok son of Ahitub and Ahimelech son of Abiathar were priests; Shavsha was the scribe;

17 Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and Pelethites; and David’s sons were chief officials at the king’s side.

2 And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became David's servants, [and] brought gifts.

3 And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went to stablish his dominion by the river Euphrates.

4 And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: David also houghed all the chariot [horses], but reserved of them an hundred chariots.

5 And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.

6 Then David put [garrisons] in Syriadamascus; and the Syrians became David's servants, [and] brought gifts. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

7 And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadarezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.

8 Likewise from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, brought David very much brass, wherewith Solomon made the brasen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.

9 ¶ Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how David had smitten all the host of Hadarezer king of Zobah;

10 He sent Hadoram his son to king David, to enquire of his welfare, and to congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer, and smitten him; (for Hadarezer had war with Tou;) and [with him] all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass.

11 Them also king David dedicated unto the LORD, with the silver and the gold that he brought from all [these] nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.

12 Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand.

13 And he put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became David's servants. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

14 So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people.

15 And Joab the son of Zeruiah [was] over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, recorder.

16 And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, [were] the priests; and Shavsha was scribe;

17 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada [was] over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David [were] chief about the king.

2 And he smote Moab also, so that Moab became servants unto David, and brought gifts.

3 And he smote Hadarezer king of Zobah in Hemath, when he went to set up his mark by the river Phrath.

4 And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand men of foot. And David lamed all the chariots, and kept an hundred chariots.

5 And the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah. But David smote the same Syrians twenty and two thousand men.

6 And they sent people to Damascus in Syria; and the Syrians became servants unto David, and brought him gifts. For the LORD helped David whithersoever he went.

7 And David took the shields of gold that were in Hadarezer's servants, and brought them to Jerusalem.

8 David also took of the cities of Hadarezer, Tibehath, and Chun, a great deal of brass, whereof Solomon made the brazen sea, and pillars, and vessels of brass.

9 And when Togu king of Hemath heard that David had slain all the power of Hadarezer king of Zobah

10 And he sent Hadoram his son unto king David, and saluted him, and blessed him, because he had fought with Hadarezer, and smitten him. For Thogu had a quarrel with Hadarezer. And all the vessels of gold, and of silver, and of brass.

11 King David sanctified unto the LORD the silver and gold which he had taken from the heathen, even from the Edomites, and from the Moabites, and from the Ammonites, and from the Philistines, and from the Amalekites.

12 And Abishai the son of Zeruiah smote of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand;

13 And put people in Edomaea, that all the Edomites were servants unto David. For the LORD helped David whithersoever he went.

14 So David reigned over all Israel, and administered judgment and justice unto all his people.

15 And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the void; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was chancellor.

16 Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, were priests. Sausa was a scribe.

17 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Krethi and Plethi. And the first sons of David were at the king's hand.
