Majority Standard Bible

1 Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may spread quickly and be held in honor, just as it was with you.

2 And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men; for not everyone holds to the faith.

3 But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.

4 And we have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do what we command you.

5 May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.

6 Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from any brother who leads an undisciplined life that is not in keeping with the tradition you received from us.

7 For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not undisciplined among you,

8 nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. Instead, in labor and toil, we worked night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you.

9 Not that we lack this right, but we wanted to offer ourselves as an example for you to imitate.

10 For even while we were with you, we gave you this command: “If anyone is unwilling to work, he shall not eat.”

11 Yet we hear that some of you are leading undisciplined lives and accomplishing nothing but being busybodies.

12 We command and urge such people by our Lord Jesus Christ to begin working quietly to earn their own living.

13 But as for you, brothers, do not grow weary in well-doing.

14 Take note of anyone who does not obey the instructions we have given in this letter. Do not associate with him, so that he may be ashamed.

15 Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.

16 Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.

17 This greeting is in my own hand—Paul. This is my mark in every letter; it is the way I write.

18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you. Amen.

KJV

1 ¶ Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have [free] course, and be glorified, even as [it is] with you:

2 And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all [men] have not faith.

3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep [you] from evil.

4 And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you.

5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

6 ¶ Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

7 For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;

8 Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:

9 Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.

10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.

12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

15 Yet count [him] not as an enemy, but admonish [him] as a brother.

16 ¶ Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord [be] with you all.

17 The salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the token in every epistle: so I write.

18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with you all. Amen.

1545 Luther's English Bible (LED)

For the course of the gospel one should pray, shunning idleness and forwardness.

1 Further, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run and be magnified, as it doth among you;

2 and that we may be delivered from evil and wicked men. For faith is not for every man.

3 But the LORD is faithful; he will strengthen you, and keep you from evil.

4 But we take care of you in the LORD, that ye do, and that ye will do, all that we command you.

5 But let the LORD direct your hearts unto the love of God, and unto the patience of Christ.

6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord JESUS Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the statutes which he received of us.

7 For ye know how ye ought to follow us. For we have not been disorderly among you,

8 Neither have we taken bread of any man in vain: but with labour and travail day and night have we wrought, that we should not be a burden to any of you;

9 Not that we have not power, but that we give ourselves for an ensample unto you to follow us.

10 And when we were with you, we commanded you these things, that if any man will not work, neither shall he eat.

11 For we hear that there are some of you that walk disorderly, and work nothing, but are froward.

12 But unto such we command and admonish them by our Lord Jesus Christ, that they work quietly, and eat their own bread.

13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in doing good.

14 But if any man obey not our word, mark him with a letter, and have nothing to do with him, that he may be ashamed.

15 Yet hold him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

16 And may he, the LORD of peace, give you peace in every place and in every way. The LORD be with you all.

17 The salutation with mine hand, Paul's hand. This is the sign in all the epistles; so I write.

18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Written from Corinth.
