Ezekiel 32

1 In the twelfth year, on the first day of the twelfth month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

2 “Son of man, take up a lament for Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him: ‘You are like a lion among the nations; you are like a monster in the seas. You thrash about in your rivers, churning up the waters with your feet and muddying the streams.’

3 This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will spread My net over you with a company of many peoples, and they will draw you up in My net.

4 I will abandon you on the land and hurl you into the open field. I will cause all the birds of the air to settle upon you, and all the beasts of the earth to eat their fill of you.

5 I will put your flesh on the mountains and fill the valleys with your remains.

6 I will drench the land with the flow of your blood, all the way to the mountains—the ravines will be filled.

7 When I extinguish you, I will cover the heavens and darken their stars. I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give its light.

8 All the shining lights in the heavens I will darken over you, and I will bring darkness upon your land,’ declares the Lord GOD.

9 ‘I will trouble the hearts of many peoples, when I bring about your destruction among the nations, in countries you do not know.

10 I will cause many peoples to be appalled over you, and their kings will shudder in horror because of you when I brandish My sword before them. On the day of your downfall each of them will tremble every moment for his life.’

11 For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘The sword of the king of Babylon will come against you!

12 I will make your hordes fall by the swords of the mighty, the most ruthless of all nations. They will ravage the pride of Egypt and all her multitudes will be destroyed.

13 I will slaughter all her cattle beside the abundant waters. No human foot will muddy them again, and no cattle hooves will disturb them.

14 Then I will let her waters settle and will make her rivers flow like oil,’ declares the Lord GOD.

15 ‘When I make the land of Egypt a desolation and empty it of all that filled it, when I strike down all who live there, then they will know that I am the LORD.’

16 This is the lament they will chant for her; the daughters of the nations will chant it. Over Egypt and all her multitudes they will chant it, declares the Lord GOD.”

17 In the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

18 “Son of man, wail for the multitudes of Egypt, and consign her and the daughters of the mighty nations to the depths of the earth with those who descend to the Pit:

19 Whom do you surpass in beauty? Go down and be placed with the uncircumcised!

20 They will fall among those slain by the sword. The sword is appointed! Let them drag her away along with all her multitudes.

21 Mighty chiefs will speak from the midst of Sheol about Egypt and her allies: ‘They have come down and lie with the uncircumcised, with those slain by the sword.’

22 Assyria is there with her whole company; her graves are all around her. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword.

23 Her graves are set in the depths of the Pit, and her company is all around her grave. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword—those who once spread terror in the land of the living.

24 Elam is there with all her multitudes around her grave. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword—those who went down uncircumcised to the earth below, who once spread their terror in the land of the living. They bear their disgrace with those who descend to the Pit.

25 Among the slain they prepare a resting place for Elam with all her hordes, with her graves all around her. All of them are uncircumcised, slain by the sword, although their terror was once spread in the land of the living. They bear their disgrace with those who descend to the Pit. They are placed among the slain.

26 Meshech and Tubal are there with all their multitudes, with their graves all around them. All of them are uncircumcised, slain by the sword, because they spread their terror in the land of the living.

27 They do not lie down with the fallen warriors of old, who went down to Sheol with their weapons of war, whose swords were placed under their heads, whose shields rested on their bones, although the terror of the mighty was once in the land of the living.

28 But you too will be shattered and lie down among the uncircumcised, with those slain by the sword.

29 Edom is there, and all her kings and princes, who despite their might are laid among those slain by the sword. They lie down with the uncircumcised, with those who descend to the Pit.

30 All the leaders of the north and all the Sidonians are there; they went down in disgrace with the slain, despite the terror of their might. They lie uncircumcised with those slain by the sword and bear their shame with those who descend to the Pit.

31 Pharaoh will see them and be comforted over all his multitude—Pharaoh and all his army, slain by the sword, declares the Lord GOD.

32 For I will spread My terror in the land of the living, so that Pharaoh and all his multitude will be laid to rest among the uncircumcised, with those slain by the sword, declares the Lord GOD.”

1 ¶ And it came to pass in the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, in the first [day] of the month, [that] the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

2 Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, Thou art like a young lion of the nations, and thou [art] as a whale in the seas: and thou camest forth with thy rivers, and troubledst the waters with thy feet, and fouledst their rivers.

3 Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will therefore spread out my net over thee with a company of many people; and they shall bring thee up in my net.

4 Then will I leave thee upon the land, I will cast thee forth upon the open field, and will cause all the fowls of the heaven to remain upon thee, and I will fill the beasts of the whole earth with thee.

5 And I will lay thy flesh upon the mountains, and fill the valleys with thy height.

6 I will also water with thy blood the land wherein thou swimmest, [even] to the mountains; and the rivers shall be full of thee.

7 And when I shall put thee out, I will cover the heaven, and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light.

8 All the bright lights of heaven will I make dark over thee, and set darkness upon thy land, saith the Lord GOD.

9 I will also vex the hearts of many people, when I shall bring thy destruction among the nations, into the countries which thou hast not known.

10 Yea, I will make many people amazed at thee, and their kings shall be horribly afraid for thee, when I shall brandish my sword before them; and they shall tremble at [every] moment, every man for his own life, in the day of thy fall.

11 For thus saith the Lord GOD; The sword of the king of Babylon shall come upon thee.

12 By the swords of the mighty will I cause thy multitude to fall, the terrible of the nations, all of them: and they shall spoil the pomp of Egypt, and all the multitude thereof shall be destroyed.

13 I will destroy also all the beasts thereof from beside the great waters; neither shall the foot of man trouble them any more, nor the hoofs of beasts trouble them.

14 Then will I make their waters deep, and cause their rivers to run like oil, saith the Lord GOD.

15 When I shall make the land of Egypt desolate, and the country shall be destitute of that whereof it was full, when I shall smite all them that dwell therein, then shall they know that I [am] the LORD.

16 This [is] the lamentation wherewith they shall lament her: the daughters of the nations shall lament her: they shall lament for her, [even] for Egypt, and for all her multitude, saith the Lord GOD.

17 ¶ It came to pass also in the twelfth year, in the fifteenth [day] of the month, [that] the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

18 Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, [even] her, and the daughters of the famous nations, unto the nether parts of the earth, with them that go down into the pit.

19 Whom dost thou pass in beauty? go down, and be thou laid with the uncircumcised.

20 They shall fall in the midst of [them that are] slain by the sword: she is delivered to the sword: draw her and all her multitudes.

21 The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with them that help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword.

22 Asshur [is] there and all her company: his graves [are] about him: all of them slain, fallen by the sword:

23 Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is round about her grave: all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which caused terror in the land of the living.

24 There [is] Elam and all her multitude round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which are gone down uncircumcised into the nether parts of the earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit.

25 They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her graves [are] round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: he is put in the midst of [them that be] slain.

26 There [is] Meshech, Tubal, and all her multitude: her graves [are] round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they caused their terror in the land of the living.

27 And they shall not lie with the mighty [that are] fallen of the uncircumcised, which are gone down to hell with their weapons of war: and they have laid their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be upon their bones, though [they were] the terror of the mighty in the land of the living.

28 Yea, thou shalt be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised, and shalt lie with [them that are] slain with the sword.

29 There [is] Edom, her kings, and all her princes, which with their might are laid by [them that were] slain by the sword: they shall lie with the uncircumcised, and with them that go down to the pit.

30 There [be] the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Zidonians, which are gone down with the slain; with their terror they are ashamed of their might; and they lie uncircumcised with [them that be] slain by the sword, and bear their shame with them that go down to the pit.

31 Pharaoh shall see them, and shall be comforted over all his multitude, [even] Pharaoh and all his army slain by the sword, saith the Lord GOD.

32 For I have caused my terror in the land of the living: and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised with [them that are] slain with the sword, [even] Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.

2 Son of man, make a lamentation against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, Thou art as a lion among the heathen, and as a dragon of the sea, leaping in thy rivers, and muddying the waters with thy feet, and making the rivers thereof turbid.

3 Thus saith the LORD GOD; I will cast my net over thee with a great multitude of people, which shall chase thee into my yarn.

4 And I will remove thee unto the land, and cast thee into the field; and all the fowls of the air shall sit upon thee, and all the beasts of the earth shall be satisfied with thee.

5 And will cast thy carcase upon the mountains, and fill the valleys with thy height.

6 The land wherein thou swimmest, I will make it red with thy blood unto the mountains, and the rivers shall be filled with thee.

7 And it shall come to pass, when thou art gone, that I will cover the heavens, and darken the stars thereof, and cover the sun with clouds, and the moon shall not give her light.

8 All the lights of heaven will I make dark upon thee, and will make darkness in thy land, saith the LORD GOD.

9 For this cause will I make the heart of many nations afraid, when I shall cause the heathen to know thy plague, and many countries which thou knowest not.

10 Many nations shall be astonished at thee, and their kings shall be afraid of thee, when I flash my sword against them; and they shall be sore afraid, and their hearts shall be troubled at thy fall.

11 For thus saith the LORD GOD; The sword of the king of Babylon shall smite thee.

12 And I will cut off thy people by the sword of valiant men, and by all the tyrannies of the heathen; and they shall devastate the glory of Egypt, and all her people shall be destroyed.

13 And I will destroy all their beasts by the great waters, and they shall not make any man's foot or any beast's hoof dull.

14 Then will I make their waters pure, and their rivers shall flow as oil, saith the LORD GOD,

15 When I have made desolate the land of Egypt, and have made desolate all that is in the land, and have slain all that dwell therein, that they may know that I am the LORD.

16 This shall be the lamentation that shall be heard: yea, many daughters of the heathen shall lament over Egypt, and all her people shall be lamented, saith the LORD GOD.

17 And it came to pass in the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the same month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying:

18 Son of man, weep for the people of Egypt, and cast them down with the daughters of the strong nations under the earth unto them that go down to the pit.

19 Where then is thy lust? Down, and lie with the uncircumcised!

20 They shall fall among them that are slain with the sword. The sword is already grasped and drawn upon all their people.

21 Of these things shall the mighty men of valour say in hell, with their helpers, which are all gone down, and lie there among the uncircumcised, and slain with the sword.

22 There is Assyria buried, and all his people round about, all slain, and fallen by the sword.

23 Their graves are deep in the pit, and his people are buried round about, all slain, and fallen by the sword, because all the world feared.

24 There is Elam also buried round about with all his multitude, all of them slain, and fallen by the sword, and gone down as the uncircumcised into the earth, whereof all the world also feared: and they must bear their shame with them that go down to the pit.

25 They are laid among the slain with all their multitude, and lie buried round about: and they are all as the uncircumcised, and as those slain by the sword, of whom also all the world feared: and they must bear their shame with them that go down to the pit, and be left among them that are slain.

26 There lie buried Meshech and Thubal with all their multitude round about, all uncircumcised, and slain with the sword, of whom also the whole world feared,

27 And all the rest of the mighty men that fell among the uncircumcised, and went to hell with their weapons of war, and put their swords under their heads, and their iniquity came upon their bones, who also were mighty men of renown throughout all the earth: so they must lie.

28 And thou shalt be cut in pieces among the uncircumcised, and shalt lie down among them that are slain with the sword.

29 There is Edom, with her kings, and all her princes, among them that are slain with the sword, and among them that are uncircumcised, and among them that go down to the pit, which were mighty.

30 Yea, all the princes of the north, and all the Zidonians that went down with the slain, and their terrible power is put to shame, shall lie with the uncircumcised, and with them that are slain with the sword, and bear their shame with them that go down to the pit.

31 These shall Pharaoh see, and be comforted with all his people that are slain under him with the sword, and with all his host, saith the LORD GOD.

32 For all the earth shall fear me, and Pharaoh and all his multitude shall lie with the uncircumcised, and with them that are slain with the sword, saith the LORD GOD.
