Genesis 36

1 This is the account of Esau (that is, Edom).

2 Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite, Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite,

3 and Basemath daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth.

4 And Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath gave birth to Reuel,

5 and Oholibamah gave birth to Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. These were the sons of Esau, who were born to him in the land of Canaan.

6 Later, Esau took his wives and sons and daughters and all the people of his household, along with his livestock, all his other animals, and all the property he had acquired in Canaan, and he moved to a land far away from his brother Jacob.

7 For their possessions were too great for them to dwell together; the land where they stayed could not support them because of their livestock.

8 So Esau (that is, Edom) settled in the area of Mount Seir.

9 This is the account of Esau, the father of the Edomites, in the area of Mount Seir.

10 These are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz son of Esau’s wife Adah, and Reuel son of Esau’s wife Basemath.

11 The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.

12 Additionally, Timna, a concubine of Esau’s son Eliphaz, gave birth to Amalek. These are the grandsons of Esau’s wife Adah.

13 These are the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. They are the grandsons of Esau’s wife Basemath.

14 These are the sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah (daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon) whom she bore to Esau: Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.

15 These are the chiefs among the sons of Esau. The sons of Eliphaz the firstborn of Esau: Chiefs Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz,

16 Korah, Gatam, and Amalek. They are the chiefs of Eliphaz in the land of Edom, and they are the grandsons of Adah.

17 These are the sons of Esau’s son Reuel: Chiefs Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. They are the chiefs descended from Reuel in the land of Edom, and they are the grandsons of Esau’s wife Basemath.

18 These are the sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah: Chiefs Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. They are the chiefs descended from Esau’s wife Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah.

19 All these are the sons of Esau (that is, Edom), and they were their chiefs.

20 These are the sons of Seir the Horite, who were living in the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

21 Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. They are the chiefs of the Horites, the descendants of Seir in the land of Edom.

22 The sons of Lotan were Hori and Hemam. Timna was Lotan’s sister.

23 These are the sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.

24 These are the sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah. (This is the Anah who found the hot springs in the wilderness as he was pasturing the donkeys of his father Zibeon.)

25 These are the children of Anah: Dishon and Oholibamah daughter of Anah.

26 These are the sons of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran.

27 These are the sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan.

28 These are the sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran.

29 These are the chiefs of the Horites: Chiefs Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

30 Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. They are the chiefs of the Horites, according to their divisions in the land of Seir.

31 These are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the Israelites:

32 Bela son of Beor reigned in Edom; the name of his city was Dinhabah.

33 When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah reigned in his place.

34 When Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites reigned in his place.

35 When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the country of Moab, reigned in his place. And the name of his city was Avith.

36 When Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah reigned in his place.

37 When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the Euphrates reigned in his place.

38 When Shaul died, Baal-hanan son of Achbor reigned in his place.

39 When Baal-hanan son of Achbor died, Hadad reigned in his place. His city was named Pau, and his wife’s name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-zahab.

40 These are the names of Esau’s chiefs, according to their families and regions, by their names: Chiefs Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,

41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,

42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,

43 Magdiel, and Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their settlements in the land they possessed. Esau was the father of the Edomites.

3 And Bashemath Ishmael's daughter, sister of Nebajoth.

4 And Adah bare to Esau Eliphaz; and Bashemath bare Reuel;

5 And Aholibamah bare Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah: these [are] the sons of Esau, which were born unto him in the land of Canaan.

6 And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan; and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob.

7 For their riches were more than that they might dwell together; and the land wherein they were strangers could not bear them because of their cattle.

8 Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau [is] Edom.

9 ¶ And these [are] the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in mount Seir:

10 These [are] the names of Esau's sons; Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, Reuel the son of Bashemath the wife of Esau.

11 And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz.

12 And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz Esau's son; and she bare to Eliphaz Amalek: these [were] the sons of Adah Esau's wife.

13 And these [are] the sons of Reuel; Nahath, and Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah: these were the sons of Bashemath Esau's wife.

14 And these were the sons of Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon, Esau's wife: and she bare to Esau Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah.

15 These [were] dukes of the sons of Esau: the sons of Eliphaz the firstborn [son] of Esau; duke Teman, duke Omar, duke Zepho, duke Kenaz,

16 Duke Korah, duke Gatam, [and] duke Amalek: these [are] the dukes [that came] of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these [were] the sons of Adah.

17 And these [are] the sons of Reuel Esau's son; duke Nahath, duke Zerah, duke Shammah, duke Mizzah: these [are] the dukes [that came] of Reuel in the land of Edom; these [are] the sons of Bashemath Esau's wife.

18 And these [are] the sons of Aholibamah Esau's wife; duke Jeush, duke Jaalam, duke Korah: these [were] the dukes [that came] of Aholibamah the daughter of Anah, Esau's wife.

19 These [are] the sons of Esau, who [is] Edom, and these [are] their dukes.

20 ¶ These [are] the sons of Seir the Horite, who inhabited the land; Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah,

21 And Dishon, and Ezer, and Dishan: these [are] the dukes of the Horites, the children of Seir in the land of Edom.

22 And the children of Lotan were Hori and Hemam; and Lotan's sister [was] Timna.

23 And the children of Shobal [were] these; Alvan, and Manahath, and Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.

24 And these [are] the children of Zibeon; both Ajah, and Anah: this [was that] Anah that found the mules in the wilderness, as he fed the asses of Zibeon his father.

25 And the children of Anah [were] these; Dishon, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah.

26 And these [are] the children of Dishon; Hemdan, and Eshban, and Ithran, and Cheran.

27 The children of Ezer [are] these; Bilhan, and Zaavan, and Akan.

28 The children of Dishan [are] these; Uz, and Aran.

29 These [are] the dukes [that came] of the Horites; duke Lotan, duke Shobal, duke Zibeon, duke Anah,

30 Duke Dishon, duke Ezer, duke Dishan: these [are] the dukes [that came] of Hori, among their dukes in the land of Seir.

31 ¶ And these [are] the kings that reigned in the land of Edom, before there reigned any king over the children of Israel.

32 And Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom: and the name of his city [was] Dinhabah.

33 And Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his stead.

34 And Jobab died, and Husham of the land of Temani reigned in his stead.

35 And Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his stead: and the name of his city [was] Avith.

36 And Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his stead.

37 And Samlah died, and Saul of Rehoboth [by] the river reigned in his stead.

38 And Saul died, and Baalhanan the son of Achbor reigned in his stead.

39 And Baalhanan the son of Achbor died, and Hadar reigned in his stead: and the name of his city [was] Pau; and his wife's name [was] Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab.

40 And these [are] the names of the dukes [that came] of Esau, according to their families, after their places, by their names; duke Timnah, duke Alvah, duke Jetheth,

41 Duke Aholibamah, duke Elah, duke Pinon,

42 Duke Kenaz, duke Teman, duke Mibzar,

43 Duke Magdiel, duke Iram: these [be] the dukes of Edom, according to their habitations in the land of their possession: he [is] Esau the father of the Edomites.

2 And Esau took wives of the daughters of Canaan; Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Ahalibamah the daughter of Ana, the nephew of Zibeon the Hivite;

3 And Basmath, Ishmael's daughter, Nebajoth's sister.

4 And Adah bare Eliphaz to Esau; but Basmath bare Reguel.

5 And Ahalibamah bare Jehus, and Jaelam, and Korah. These are the sons of Esau, which were born unto him in the land of Canaan.

6 And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the souls of his house, and his substance, and all his cattle, with all the goods which he had gotten in the land of Canaan, and went into a land of Jacob his brother.

7 For their substance was so great, that they could not dwell together: and the land wherein they were strangers could not bear them for the multitude of their cattle.

8 So Esau dwelt in mount Seir. And Esau is the Edom.

9 This is the family of Esau, from whom the Edomites came, in mount Seir.

10 And these are the names of the sons of Esau: Eliphaz the son of Adah, Esau's wife; Reguel the son of Basmath, Esau's wife.

11 And the sons of Eliphaz were these: Theman, Omar, Zepho, Gaetham, and Kenaz.

12 And Timmah was the concubine of Eliphaz the son of Esau, which bare him Amalek. These are the children of Adah Esau's wife.

13 And the children of Reguel are these: Nahath, Serah, Samma, Missa. These are the children of Basmath, Esau's wife.

14 And the sons of Ahalibamah, Esau's wife, the daughter of Ana, the nephew of Zibeon, which she bare unto Esau, are these; Jehus, and Jaelam, and Korah.

15 These are the princes of the sons of Esau: The sons of Eliphaz the firstborn of Esau were these; the prince Theman, the prince Omar, the prince Zepho, the prince Kenaz,

16 The prince Korah, the prince Gaetham, the prince Amalek. These are the princes of Eliphaz, in the land of Edom, and are the children of Adah.

17 And these are the sons of Reguel the son of Esau; Nahath the prince, Zerah the prince, Samma the prince, Missa the prince. These are the princes of Reguel in the land of Edom, and are the children of Basmath Esau's wife.

18 These are the sons of Ahalibamah, Esau's wife: the prince of Jehu, the prince of Jaelam, the prince of Korah. These are the princes of Ahalibamah the daughter of Ana, Esau's wife.

19 These are the children of Esau, and their princes. He is the Edom.

20 And the sons of Seir the Horite, which dwelt in the land, are these: Lothan, Shobal, Zibeon, Ana, Dison, Ezer, and Disan.

21 These are the princes of the Horites, children of Seir, in the land of Edom.

22 And the sons of Lothan were these: Hori and Heman; and Lothan's sister's name was Thimnah.

23 And the children of Sobal were these: Alwan, Manahath, Ebal, Sepho and Onam.

24 the children of Zibeon were: Aja and Ana. This is Ana, who invented mule horses in the desert as he tended his father Zibeon's donkey.

25 And the sons of Anah were: Dison and Ahalibamah, which is the daughter of Anah.

26 And the children of Dison were: Hemdan, Esban, Jethran and Charan.

27 the children of ezer were: Bilhan, Sawan and Akan

28 the children of Disan were: Uz and Man.

29 These are the princes of the Horites: the prince Lothan, the prince Shobal, the prince Zibeon, the prince Ana,

30 The prince Dison, the prince Ezer, the prince Disan. These are the princes of the Horites, which reigned in the land of Seir.

31 And the kings that reigned in the land of Edom before the children of Israel had kings are these:

32 Bela was king in Edom, the son of Beor: and the name of his city was Dinhabah.

33 And when Bela was dead, Jobab the son of Zerah of Bazrah reigned in his stead.

34 And it came to pass, when Jobab was dead, that Husham the king of the Themanites reigned in his stead.

35 And when Husham was dead, Hadad the son of Bedad reigned in his stead, who smote the Midianites in the field of Moab: and the name of his city was Avith.

36 And when Hadad was dead, Samla reigned from Masrek.

37 And when Samla was dead, Saul reigned over Rehoboth by the river.

38 And when Saul was dead, Baal Hanan the son of Achbor reigned in his stead.

39 And when Baal Hanan the son of Achbor was dead, Hadar reigned in his stead; and the name of his city was Pagu; and his wife's name was Mehetabeel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mesahab.

40 So the princes of Esau are called by their families, and by their places, and by their names: the lord Thimna, the lord Alwa, the lord Jetheth,

41 The prince Ahalibama, the prince Ela, the prince Pinon,

42 The prince Kenas, the prince Theman, the prince Mibzar,

43 Magdiel the prince, Jram the prince. These are the princes of Edom, as they dwelt in their inheritance. And Esau is the father of the Edomites.
