Hosea 9

1 Do not rejoice, O Israel, with exultation like the nations, for you have played the harlot against your God; you have made love for hire on every threshing floor.

2 The threshing floor and winepress will not feed them, and the new wine will fail them.

3 They will not remain in the land of the LORD; Ephraim will return to Egypt and eat unclean food in Assyria.

4 They will not pour out wine offerings to the LORD, and their sacrifices will not please Him, but will be to them like the bread of mourners; all who eat will be defiled. For their bread will be for themselves; it will not enter the house of the LORD.

5 What will you do on the appointed day, on the day of the LORD’s feast?

6 For even if they flee destruction, Egypt will gather them and Memphis will bury them. Their precious silver will be taken over by thistles, and thorns will overrun their tents.

7 The days of punishment have come; the days of retribution have arrived—let Israel know it. The prophet is called a fool, and the inspired man insane, because of the greatness of your iniquity and hostility.

8 The prophet is Ephraim’s watchman, along with my God, yet the snare of the fowler lies on all his paths. Hostility is in the house of his God!

9 They have deeply corrupted themselves as in the days of Gibeah; He will remember their guilt; He will punish their sins.

10 I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness. I saw your fathers as the firstfruits of the fig tree in its first season. But they went to Baal-peor, and consecrated themselves to Shame; so they became as detestable as the thing they loved.

11 Ephraim’s glory will fly away like a bird, with no birth, no pregnancy, and no conception.

12 Even if they raise their children, I will bereave them of each one. Yes, woe be to them when I turn away from them!

13 I have seen Ephraim, like Tyre, planted in a meadow. But Ephraim will bring out his children for slaughter.

14 Give them, O LORD—what will You give? Give them wombs that miscarry and breasts that dry up!

15 All their evil appears at Gilgal, for there I hated them. I will drive them from My house for the wickedness of their deeds. I will no longer love them; all their leaders are rebellious.

16 Ephraim is struck down; their root is withered; they cannot bear fruit. Even if they bear children, I will slay the darlings of their wombs.

17 My God will reject them because they have not obeyed Him; and they shall be wanderers among the nations.

1 ¶ Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as [other] people: for thou hast gone a whoring from thy God, thou hast loved a reward upon every cornfloor.

2 The floor and the winepress shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail in her.

3 They shall not dwell in the LORD'S land; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean [things] in Assyria.

4 They shall not offer wine [offerings] to the LORD, neither shall they be pleasing unto him: their sacrifices [shall be] unto them as the bread of mourners; all that eat thereof shall be polluted: for their bread for their soul shall not come into the house of the LORD.

5 What will ye do in the solemn day, and in the day of the feast of the LORD?

6 For, lo, they are gone because of destruction: Egypt shall gather them up, Memphis shall bury them: the pleasant [places] for their silver, nettles shall possess them: thorns [shall be] in their tabernacles.

7 ¶ The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know [it]: the prophet [is] a fool, the spiritual man [is] mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred.

8 The watchman of Ephraim [was] with my God: [but] the prophet [is] a snare of a fowler in all his ways, [and] hatred in the house of his God.

9 They have deeply corrupted [themselves], as in the days of Gibeah: [therefore] he will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sins.

10 I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstripe in the fig tree at her first time: [but] they went to Baalpeor, and separated themselves unto [that] shame; and [their] abominations were according as they loved.

11 ¶ [As for] Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird, from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception.

12 Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, [that there shall] not [be] a man [left]: yea, woe also to them when I depart from them!

13 Ephraim, as I saw Tyrus, [is] planted in a pleasant place: but Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer.

14 Give them, O LORD: what wilt thou give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.

15 All their wickedness [is] in Gilgal: for there I hated them: for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of mine house, I will love them no more: all their princes [are] revolters.

16 Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay [even] the beloved [fruit] of their womb.

17 My God will cast them away, because they did not hearken unto him: and they shall be wanderers among the nations.

1 Thou shalt not rejoice, O Israel, nor glory as the heathen: for thou hast whored against thy God, to seek the wages of whoredoms, that all the threshingfloors may be full of corn.

2 Therefore the threshingfloors and the winepress shall not nourish thee, and the must shall fail thee.

3 And they shall not dwell in the land of the LORD: but Ephraim shall return into Egypt, and shall eat in Assyria, which is unclean,

4 There they cannot make a drink offering of wine unto the LORD, nor do any thing to please him. Their offering shall be as the bread of the afflicted, whereof all they that eat thereof shall be unclean: for their bread they eat for themselves, and shall not be brought into the house of the LORD.

5 What then will ye do in the seasons, and in the feasts of the LORD?

6 Behold, they must depart from before the destroyer! Egypt shall gather them, and Moph shall bury them. Nettles shall grow where their dear silver of idols stand, and thorns in their tents.

7 The time of visitation is come, the time of vengeance; Israel shall know it. The prophets are fools, and the fools are mad, because of thy great iniquity, and because of the great hostile idolatry.

8 The watchmen of Ephraim kept about my God: but now they are prophets, laying cords in all their ways through the hostile idolatry of the house of their God.

9 They corrupt too deeply, as in the days of Gibeah: therefore shall he remember their iniquity, and punish their sin.

10 I found Israel in the wilderness like grapes, and saw your fathers as the first figs of the fig tree: but afterward they went to Baal-peor, and vowed themselves to the vile idol, and became as abominable as their wooers.

11 Therefore the glory of Ephraim must fly away like a bird, that they should not bear, nor carry, nor conceive.

12 Though they bring up their children, yet will I make them without children, and they shall not be men. And woe unto them, when I am departed from them!

13 Ephraim, as I look upon it, is planted and comely as Tyre, but now she letteth out her children to the slayer.

14 Give unto them, O Lord. But what wilt thou give them? Give them barren bodies and dried- up breasts!

15 All their wickedness is done in Gilgal: there am I hostile unto them: and I will also cast them out of mine house for their wickedness, and will show them no more love: for all their princes are apostates.

16 Ephraim is smitten; their root is withered, that they can no more bring forth fruit. Though they bring forth, yet will I kill the fruit of their womb.

17 My God shall reject them, because they will not hear him, and shall go astray among the heathen.
