MSB Audio · Job 37
Majority Standard Bible
1 “At this my heart also pounds and leaps from its place.
2 Listen closely to the thunder of His voice and the rumbling that comes from His mouth.
3 He unleashes His lightning beneath the whole sky and sends it to the ends of the earth.
4 Then there comes a roaring sound; He thunders with His majestic voice. He does not restrain the lightning when His voice resounds.
5 God thunders wondrously with His voice; He does great things we cannot comprehend.
6 For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the gentle rain, ‘Pour out a mighty downpour.’
7 He seals up the hand of every man, so that all men may know His work.
8 The wild animals enter their lairs; they settle down in their dens.
9 The tempest comes from its chamber, and the cold from the driving north winds.
10 By the breath of God the ice is formed and the watery expanses are frozen.
11 He loads the clouds with moisture; He scatters His lightning through them.
12 They swirl about, whirling at His direction, accomplishing all that He commands over the face of all the earth.
13 Whether for punishment or for His land, He accomplishes this in His loving devotion.
14 Listen to this, O Job; stand still and consider the wonders of God.
15 Do you know how God dispatches the clouds or makes the lightning flash?
16 Do you understand how the clouds float, those wonders of Him who is perfect in knowledge?
17 You whose clothes get hot when the land lies hushed under the south wind,
18 can you, like Him, spread out the skies, as strong as a mirror of bronze?
19 Teach us what we should say to Him; we cannot draw up our case because of our darkness.
20 Should He be told that I want to speak? Would a man ask to be swallowed up?
21 Now no one can gaze at the sun when it is bright in the skies after the wind has swept them clean.
22 Out of the north He comes in golden splendor; awesome majesty surrounds Him.
23 The Almighty is beyond our reach; He is exalted in power! In His justice and great righteousness He does not oppress.
24 Therefore, men fear Him, for He is not partial to the wise in heart.”
KJV
1 ¶ At this also my heart trembleth, and is moved out of his place.
2 Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound [that] goeth out of his mouth.
3 He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.
4 After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice is heard.
5 God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.
6 ¶ For he saith to the snow, Be thou [on] the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.
7 He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.
8 Then the beasts go into dens, and remain in their places.
9 Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north.
10 By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.
11 Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud:
12 And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth.
13 He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.
14 ¶ Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.
15 Dost thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine?
16 Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?
17 How thy garments [are] warm, when he quieteth the earth by the south [wind]?
18 Hast thou with him spread out the sky, [which is] strong, [and] as a molten looking glass?
19 Teach us what we shall say unto him; [for] we cannot order [our speech] by reason of darkness.
20 Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man speak, surely he shall be swallowed up.
21 ¶ And now [men] see not the bright light which [is] in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them.
22 Fair weather cometh out of the north: with God [is] terrible majesty.
23 [Touching] the Almighty, we cannot find him out: [he is] excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.
24 Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any [that are] wise of heart.
1545 Luther's English Bible (LED)
God's majesty is known from the book of nature.
1 my heart is amazed and trembles.
2 Hear ye, O beloved, how his thunder rageth, and what talk proceedeth out of his mouth.
3 He seeth under the heavens, and his lightning shineth upon the ends of the earth.
4 After this the thunder roareth, and thundereth with his great sound; and when his thunder is heard, it cannot be stopped.
5 God thundereth dreadfully with his thunder, and doeth great things, and is not known.
6 He saith unto the snow, and it is soon upon the earth; and unto the downpour, and the downpour is with power.
7 All men hath he in his hand as shut up, that men may learn what he can do.
8 The wild beast entereth into the cave, and abideth in his place.
9 from noon comes weather and from midnight cold.
10 From the breath of God cometh frost, and great waters, when He causeth to thaw.
11 The thick clouds part, that it may be light; and through the mist his light breaketh.
12 He turneth the clouds whithersoever he will, that they may do according to all that he hath given them upon the face of the earth,
13 Whether it be over a generation, or over a nation, if he be found merciful.
14 Take heed therefore, Job; stand, and hear the wonders of God.
15 Knowest thou when God bringeth these things upon them, and when he sendeth forth the light of his clouds?
16 Knowest thou how the clouds scatter? What wonders the perfect know.
17 That thy garments may be warm, when the land is still from the noonday wind?
18 Yea, thou wilt spread out with him the clouds that stand firm as a molten mirror.
19 Show us what we ought to say unto him: for we shall not reach thither for darkness.
20 Who shall tell him that I speak? If any man speak, he shall be swallowed up.
21 Now they see not the light that shineth in the clouds: but when the wind bloweth, it is clear.
22 From midnight comes gold to praise before the terrible GOtt.
23 But they may not understand the Almighty, who is so great in power; for he will not give account of his right and good cause.
24 Therefore men must fear him; and he feareth none, how wise they are.
