Jonah 2

1 From inside the fish, Jonah prayed to the LORD his God,

2 saying: “In my distress I called to the LORD, and He answered me. From the belly of Sheol I called for help, and You heard my voice.

3 For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the current swirled about me; all Your breakers and waves swept over me.

4 At this, I said, ‘I have been banished from Your sight; yet I will look once more toward Your holy temple.’

5 The waters engulfed me to take my life; the watery depths closed around me; the seaweed wrapped around my head.

6 To the roots of the mountains I descended; the earth beneath me barred me in forever! But You raised my life from the pit, O LORD my God!

7 As my life was fading away, I remembered the LORD. My prayer went up to You, to Your holy temple.

8 Those who cling to worthless idols forsake His loving devotion.

9 But I, with the voice of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to You. I will fulfill what I have vowed. Salvation is from the LORD!”

10 And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.

1 ¶ Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,

2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, [and] thou heardest my voice.

3 For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

4 Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

5 The waters compassed me about, [even] to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.

6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars [was] about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay [that] that I have vowed. Salvation [is] of the LORD.

10 ¶ And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry [land].

2 And Jonah prayed moreover unto the LORD his God in the body of the fish.

3 And said: I cried unto the LORD in my anguish, and he answered me; I cried out of the belly of hell, and thou heardest my voice.

4 Thou castest me into the deep in the midst of the sea, and the floods compassed me about: all thy waves and thy billows went over me,

5 That I thought to be cast out of thine eyes, that I should see thy holy temple no more.

6 Waters compassed me about unto my life; the deep compassed me about; reeds covered my head.

7 I sank down to the bottom of the mountains: the earth had shut me up for ever. But thou hast brought my life out of destruction, O LORD my God!

8 When my soul was troubled with me, I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came unto thee into thy holy temple.

9 They that hold above vanity forsake their grace.

10 But I will offer with thanksgiving; I will pay my vows unto the LORD, because he hath helped me.

11 And the LORD spake unto the fish, and the fish spued out Jonah unto the land.
