Nehemiah 11

1 Now the leaders of the people settled in Jerusalem, and the rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of ten to live in the holy city of Jerusalem, while the remaining nine were to dwell in their own towns.

2 And the people blessed all the men who volunteered to live in Jerusalem.

3 These are the heads of the provinces who settled in Jerusalem. (In the villages of Judah, however, each lived on his own property in their towns—the Israelites, priests, Levites, temple servants, and descendants of Solomon’s servants—

4 while some of the descendants of Judah and Benjamin settled in Jerusalem.) From the descendants of Judah: Athaiah son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalalel, a descendant of Perez;

5 and Maaseiah son of Baruch, the son of Col-hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, a descendant of Shelah.

6 The descendants of Perez who settled in Jerusalem totaled 468 men of valor.

7 From the descendants of Benjamin: Sallu son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jeshaiah;

8 and his followers Gabbai and Sallai—928 men.

9 Joel son of Zichri was the officer over them, and Judah son of Hassenuah was over the Second District of the city.

10 From the priests: Jedaiah son of Joiarib; Jachin;

11 Seraiah son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the chief official of the house of God;

12 and their associates who did the work at the temple—822 men; Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah;

13 and his associates, the leaders of families—242 men; Amashai son of Azarel, the son of Ahzai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer;

14 and his associates—128 mighty men of valor. Zabdiel son of Haggedolim was their overseer.

15 From the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni;

16 Shabbethai and Jozabad, two leaders of the Levites, who supervised the work outside the house of God;

17 Mattaniah son of Mica, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, who led in thanksgiving and prayer; Bakbukiah, second among his associates; and Abda son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.

18 The Levites in the holy city totaled 284.

19 And the gatekeepers: Akkub, Talmon, and their associates, who kept watch at the gates—172 men.

20 The rest of the Israelites, with the priests and Levites, were in all the villages of Judah, each on his own inheritance.

21 The temple servants lived on the hill of Ophel, with Ziha and Gishpa over them.

22 Now the overseer of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Mica. He was one of Asaph’s descendants, who were the singers in charge of the service of the house of God.

23 For there was a command from the king concerning the singers, an ordinance regulating their daily activities.

24 Pethahiah son of Meshezabel, a descendant of Zerah son of Judah, was the king’s agent in every matter concerning the people.

25 As for the villages with their fields, some of the people of Judah lived in Kiriath-arba, Dibon, Jekabzeel, and their villages;

26 in Jeshua, Moladah, and Beth-pelet;

27 in Hazar-shual; in Beersheba and its villages;

28 in Ziklag; in Meconah and its villages;

29 in En-rimmon, Zorah, Jarmuth,

30 Zanoah, Adullam, and their villages; in Lachish and its fields; and in Azekah and its villages. So they settled from Beersheba all the way to the Valley of Hinnom.

31 The descendants of Benjamin from Geba lived in Michmash, Aija, and Bethel with its villages;

32 in Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah,

33 Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim,

34 Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat,

35 Lod, and Ono; and in the Valley of the Craftsmen.

36 And some divisions of the Levites of Judah settled in Benjamin.

1 ¶ And the rulers of the people dwelt at Jerusalem: the rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city, and nine parts [to dwell] in [other] cities.

2 And the people blessed all the men, that willingly offered themselves to dwell at Jerusalem.

3 Now these [are] the chief of the province that dwelt in Jerusalem: but in the cities of Judah dwelt every one in his possession in their cities, [to wit], Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the Nethinims, and the children of Solomon's servants.

4 And at Jerusalem dwelt [certain] of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin. Of the children of Judah; Athaiah the son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalaleel, of the children of Perez;

5 And Maaseiah the son of Baruch, the son of Colhozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, the son of Shiloni.

6 All the sons of Perez that dwelt at Jerusalem [were] four hundred threescore and eight valiant men.

7 And these [are] the sons of Benjamin; Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jesaiah.

8 And after him Gabbai, Sallai, nine hundred twenty and eight.

9 And Joel the son of Zichri [was] their overseer: and Judah the son of Senuah [was] second over the city.

10 Of the priests: Jedaiah the son of Joiarib, Jachin.

11 Seraiah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, [was] the ruler of the house of God.

12 And their brethren that did the work of the house [were] eight hundred twenty and two: and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashur, the son of Malchiah,

13 And his brethren, chief of the fathers, two hundred forty and two: and Amashai the son of Azareel, the son of Ahasai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer,

14 And their brethren, mighty men of valour, an hundred twenty and eight: and their overseer [was] Zabdiel, the son of [one of] the great men.

15 Also of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hashub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni;

16 And Shabbethai and Jozabad, of the chief of the Levites, [had] the oversight of the outward business of the house of God.

17 And Mattaniah the son of Micha, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, [was] the principal to begin the thanksgiving in prayer: and Bakbukiah the second among his brethren, and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.

18 All the Levites in the holy city [were] two hundred fourscore and four.

19 Moreover the porters, Akkub, Talmon, and their brethren that kept the gates, [were] an hundred seventy and two.

20 ¶ And the residue of Israel, of the priests, [and] the Levites, [were] in all the cities of Judah, every one in his inheritance.

21 But the Nethinims dwelt in Ophel: and Ziha and Gispa [were] over the Nethinims.

22 The overseer also of the Levites at Jerusalem [was] Uzzi the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Micha. Of the sons of Asaph, the singers [were] over the business of the house of God.

23 For [it was] the king's commandment concerning them, that a certain portion should be for the singers, due for every day.

24 And Pethahiah the son of Meshezabeel, of the children of Zerah the son of Judah, [was] at the king's hand in all matters concerning the people.

25 And for the villages, with their fields, [some] of the children of Judah dwelt at Kirjatharba, and [in] the villages thereof, and at Dibon, and [in] the villages thereof, and at Jekabzeel, and [in] the villages thereof,

26 And at Jeshua, and at Moladah, and at Bethphelet,

27 And at Hazarshual, and at Beersheba, and [in] the villages thereof,

28 And at Ziklag, and at Mekonah, and in the villages thereof,

29 And at Enrimmon, and at Zareah, and at Jarmuth,

30 Zanoah, Adullam, and [in] their villages, at Lachish, and the fields thereof, at Azekah, and [in] the villages thereof. And they dwelt from Beersheba unto the valley of Hinnom.

31 The children also of Benjamin from Geba [dwelt] at Michmash, and Aija, and Bethel, and [in] their villages,

32 [And] at Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah,

33 Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim,

34 Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat,

35 Lod, and Ono, the valley of craftsmen.

36 And of the Levites [were] divisions [in] Judah, [and] in Benjamin.

4 And there dwelt at Jerusalem some of the children of Judah and Benjamin. Of the children of Judah; Athaiah the son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahelaleel, of the children of Parez;

5 And Maeshiah the son of Baruch, the son of Chal-hose, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Jehoiarib, the son of Zechariah, the son of Shiloni.

6 All the sons of Parez that dwelt at Jerusalem were four hundred threescore and eight, honest men.

7 These are the sons of Benjamin; Shallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jeshaiah;

8 And after him Gabai, Sallai, nine hundred twenty and eight.

9 And Joel the son of Zichri was their ruler, and Judah the son of Hashnua over the other part of the city.

10 Of the priests dwelt Jedaiah the son of Jehoiarib, Jachin,

11 And Seraiah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, was ruler in the house of GOD.

12 And his brethren that worked in the house were eight hundred twenty and two. And Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Plaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashur, the son of Malchiah,

13 And his brethren, captains among the fathers, were two hundred and forty and two. And Amassai the son of Azareel the son of Ahusai, the son of Mesillemoth, the son of Immer,

14 And his brethren, mighty men, were an hundred and twenty and eight. And their chief was Zabdiel the son of Gedolim.

15 Of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hashub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni,

16 And Zabthai and Jozabad, of the chief of the Levites, in the outward business of the house of God,

17 And Mathaniah the son of Micah, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, which was the chief to give thanks unto prayer; and Bakbukiah the other of his brethren, and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.

18 Of all the Levites that were in the holy city, two hundred fourscore and four.

19 And the porters, Akub and Talmon, and their brethren that kept the gates, were an hundred and seventy and two.

20 And the rest of Israel, the priests and the Levites, were in all the cities of Judah, every man in his inheritance.

21 And the Nethinims dwelt at Ophel: and Ziha and Gispa were of the Nethinims.

22 And the ruler over the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mathaniah, the son of Micah. Of the children of Asaph were singers for the business of the house of God.

23 For it was the king's commandment concerning them, that the singers should do faithfully every day his hire.

24 And Pethahiah the son of Mesabeel, of the sons of Zerah the son of Judah, was the king's commander in all the affairs of the people.

25 And of the children of Judah that were without in the villages of their land, some dwelt in Kiriath-arba, and in their daughters, and in Dibon, and in their daughters, and in Kabzeel, and in their villages.

26 and to Jesua, Molada, Beth-Palet,

27 hazar-sual, berseba and their daughters

28 And to Ziklag, and to Mochona, and to their daughters.

29 and to En-Rimmon, Zarega, Jeremuth,

30 Sanoah, and Adullam, and their villages, and Lachish, and their fields, and Azekah, and their daughters. And they encamped from Beersheba unto the valley of Hinnom.

31 And the children of Benjamin of Gaba dwelt at Michmash, and at Aiah, and at Bethel, and at their daughters.

32 and to Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah,

33 Hazor, Rama, Githaim,

34 Hadid, Ziboim, Neballat,

35 Lod, Ono and in the Zimmer Valley.

36 And certain of the Levites, which had part in Judah, dwelt among Benjamin.
