Psalms 64

1 For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. Hear, O God, my voice of complaint; preserve my life from dread of the enemy.

2 Hide me from the scheming of the wicked, from the mob of workers of iniquity,

3 who sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows,

4 ambushing the innocent in seclusion, shooting suddenly, without fear.

5 They hold fast to their evil purpose; they speak of hiding their snares. “Who will see them?” they say.

6 They devise injustice and say, “We have perfected a secret plan.” For the inner man and the heart are mysterious.

7 But God will shoot them with arrows; suddenly they will be wounded.

8 They will be made to stumble, their own tongues turned against them. All who see will shake their heads.

9 Then all mankind will fear and proclaim the work of God; so they will ponder what He has done.

10 Let the righteous rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in Him; let all the upright in heart exult.

1 ¶ To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy.

2 Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity:

3 Who whet their tongue like a sword, [and] bend [their bows to shoot] their arrows, [even] bitter words:

4 That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.

5 They encourage themselves [in] an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them?

6 They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward [thought] of every one [of them], and the heart, [is] deep.

7 ¶ But God shall shoot at them [with] an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded.

8 So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away.

9 And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing.

10 The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.

2 Hear, O God, my voice in my lamentation; keep my life from the cruel enemy!

3 hide me from the gathering of the wicked, from the heap of evildoers,

4 Who sharpen their tongue like a sword, who aim their poisonous words like arrows,

5 That they shoot secretly at the pious: suddenly they shoot at him without all timidity.

6 They are bold with their wicked devices, and say how they will lay cords, and speak: Who can see them?

7 They invent mischief, and keep it secret; they are crafty, and have crafty plots.

8 But God shall shoot them suddenly, and they shall be in pain.

9 Their own tongues shall cut them off, and he that beholdeth them shall mock them.

10 And all men that see it shall say, This hath God done, and shall know that it is His work.

11 The righteous shall rejoice in the LORD, and trust in him: and all the upright in heart shall glory in him.
