1 This is Solomon’s Song of Songs.

2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth! For your love is more delightful than wine.

3 The fragrance of your perfume is pleasing; your name is like perfume poured out. No wonder the maidens adore you.

4 Take me away with you—let us hurry! May the king bring me to his chambers. We will rejoice and delight in you; we will praise your love more than wine. It is only right that they adore you.

5 I am dark, yet lovely, O daughters of Jerusalem, like the tents of Kedar, like the curtains of Solomon.

6 Do not stare because I am dark, for the sun has gazed upon me. My mother’s sons were angry with me; they made me a keeper of the vineyards, but my own vineyard I have neglected.

7 Tell me, O one I love, where do you pasture your sheep? Where do you rest them at midday? Why should I be like a veiled woman beside the flocks of your companions?

8 If you do not know, O fairest of women, follow the tracks of the flock, and graze your young goats near the tents of the shepherds.

9 I compare you, my darling, to a mare among Pharaoh’s chariots.

10 Your cheeks are beautiful with ornaments, your neck with strings of jewels.

11 We will make you ornaments of gold, studded with beads of silver.

12 While the king was at his table, my perfume spread its fragrance.

13 My beloved is to me a sachet of myrrh resting between my breasts.

14 My beloved is to me a cluster of henna blossoms in the vineyards of En-gedi.

15 How beautiful you are, my darling! Oh, how very beautiful! Your eyes are like doves.

16 How handsome you are, my beloved! Oh, how delightful! The soft grass is our bed.

17 The beams of our house are cedars; our rafters are fragrant firs.

KJV

1 ¶ The song of songs, which [is] Solomon's.

2 ¶ Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love [is] better than wine.

3 Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name [is as] ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.

4 Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

5 I [am] black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon.

6 Look not upon me, because I [am] black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother's children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; [but] mine own vineyard have I not kept.

7 ¶ Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest, where thou makest [thy flock] to rest at noon: for why should I be as one that turneth aside by the flocks of thy companions?

8 If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed thy kids beside the shepherds' tents.

9 I have compared thee, O my love, to a company of horses in Pharaoh's chariots.

10 Thy cheeks are comely with rows [of jewels], thy neck with chains [of gold].

11 We will make thee borders of gold with studs of silver.

12 ¶ While the king [sitteth] at his table, my spikenard sendeth forth the smell thereof.

13 A bundle of myrrh [is] my wellbeloved unto me; he shall lie all night betwixt my breasts.

14 My beloved [is] unto me [as] a cluster of camphire in the vineyards of Engedi.

15 Behold, thou [art] fair, my love; behold, thou [art] fair; thou [hast] doves' eyes.

16 Behold, thou [art] fair, my beloved, yea, pleasant: also our bed [is] green.

17 The beams of our house [are] cedar, [and] our rafters of fir.

1545 Luther's English Bible (LED)

The Christian Church longs for her Bridegroom, Christ, to whom she is promised and united in love.

1 the Song of Solomon.

2 Let him kiss me with the kiss of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine;

3 That they may smell thy good ointment. Thy name is an ointment poured out: therefore do the handmaids love thee. 4: Lead me after thee, and we will run. The king leadeth me into his chamber. We rejoice and are glad in thee; We remember thy love more than wine. The pious love thee.

5 I am black, but I am lovely, O daughters of Jerusalem, like the tents of Kedar, like the carpets of Solomon.

6 Look not upon me, because I am black: for the sun hath burned me. My mother's children are angry with me. They have made me the keeper of the vineyards: but the vineyard which I had, I have not kept it.

7 Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest, where thou restest at noonday, that I walk not to and fro among the flocks of thy companions.

8 If thou knowest not thyself, O fairest of women, go out in the footsteps of the sheep, and feed thy goats by the shepherds' houses.

9 I will liken thee, my friend, unto my travelling witness unto Pharaoh's chariot.

10 Thy cheeks are set in braces, and thy neck in chains.

11 We will make thee clasps of gold, and silver spangles.

12 And when the king turned himself, my nard gave his smell.

13 My friend is a clump of myrrh that hangeth between my breasts.

14 My friend is a grape of Kopher unto me in the vineyards of Engeddi.

15 Behold, my friend, thou art fair, fair art thou; thine eyes are as the eyes of a dove.

16 Behold, my friend, thou art fair and lovely. Our bed is green.

17 The beams of our houses are cedars, and our laths are cypresses.
