Episode Description

On Gaudete Sunday the Church is called to rejoice—but not with shallow cheerfulness. True Christian joy is grounded in repentance, faith, and fidelity to the Word of God.

In this sermon on 1 Corinthians 4:1–5 and Matthew 11:2–10, we hear St. Paul’s call to be faithful stewards of God’s mysteries and Jesus’ testimony about John the Baptist, the preacher of repentance who prepared the way for the Lord. Even in doubt, suffering, and imprisonment, John clung to the promises of Christ.

This sermon calls hearers to repent of false expectations of God, to submit to His Word rather than human judgment, and to rejoice because the Lord is near. It also serves as an introduction to catechetical instruction, showing why the Church must clearly teach what she believes, confesses, and practices.

Gaudete—Rejoice. The Judge who is coming is also your Savior.
