Episode Description

In this episode, we continue our reading of the Large Catechism by Dr. Martin Luther, turning to the Third Article of the Apostles’ Creed.

“I believe in the Holy Spirit.”

What does this mean?

Luther teaches that we cannot by our own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ or come to Him. The Holy Spirit calls us by the Gospel, enlightens us with His gifts, sanctifies and keeps us in the one true faith. Christianity is not our decision, achievement, or moral improvement project — it is the Spirit’s gracious work through Word and Sacrament.

In this reading, we hear how the Spirit gathers the Church, daily forgives sins, and preserves believers unto life everlasting.
