Luther & Occam: Greatest Teacher, Useless Philosophy — The Paradox Explained.
Episode Description
Luther called William of Occam his “greatest teacher” — but was he ever an Occamist theologian? Not even close. In this episode we take Occam’s Razor itself and use it to slice through the myth. Luther learned logic from the scholastics, then rejected all philosophy as useless for theology. With irony and history we show that Luther didn’t adopt Occam’s system — he outgrew it, buried it, and replaced it with something the academy could never teach: the theology of the Cross, the external Word, and sacramental reality. Philosophy may sharpen arguments, but it cannot speak of God. Christ alone shaves souls clean.
🎙 Occam gave Luther a razor. Christ gave him a Gospel.
🪒 Luther learned to shave with Occam’s Razor, then warned the Church to stop shaving God with it.
If you love confessional clarity, theological precision, and Reformation fire, this episode is your cleanest cut yet.
