Joshua 15

1 Now the allotment for the clans of the tribe of Judah extended to the border of Edom, to the Wilderness of Zin at the extreme southern boundary:

2 Their southern border started at the bay on the southern tip of the Salt Sea,

3 proceeded south of the Ascent of Akrabbim, continued on to Zin, went over to the south of Kadesh-barnea, ran past Hezron up to Addar, and curved toward Karka.

4 It proceeded to Azmon, joined the Brook of Egypt, and ended at the Sea. This was their southern border.

5 The eastern border was the Salt Sea as far as the mouth of the Jordan. The northern border started from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan,

6 went up to Beth-hoglah, proceeded north of Beth-arabah, and went up to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben.

7 Then the border went up to Debir from the Valley of Achor, turning north to Gilgal, which faces the Ascent of Adummim south of the ravine. It continued along the waters of En-shemesh and came out at En-rogel.

8 From there the border went up the Valley of Ben-hinnom along the southern slope of the Jebusites (that is, Jerusalem) and ascended to the top of the hill that faces the Valley of Hinnom on the west, at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim.

9 From the hilltop the border curved to the spring of the Waters of Nephtoah, proceeded to the cities of Mount Ephron, and then bent around toward Baalah (that is, Kiriath-jearim).

10 The border curled westward from Baalah to Mount Seir, ran along the northern slope of Mount Jearim (that is, Chesalon), went down to Beth-shemesh, and crossed to Timnah.

11 Then it went out to the northern slope of Ekron, curved toward Shikkeron, proceeded to Mount Baalah, went on to Jabneel, and ended at the Sea.

12 And the western border was the coastline of the Great Sea. These are the boundaries around the clans of the descendants of Judah.

13 According to the LORD’s command to him, Joshua gave Caleb son of Jephunneh a portion among the sons of Judah—Kiriath-arba, that is, Hebron. (Arba was the forefather of Anak.)

14 And Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak—the descendants of Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.

15 From there he marched against the inhabitants of Debir (formerly known as Kiriath-sepher).

16 And Caleb said, “To the man who strikes down Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give my daughter Acsah in marriage.”

17 So Othniel son of Caleb’s brother Kenaz captured the city, and Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to him in marriage.

18 One day Acsah came to Othniel and urged him to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, “What do you desire?”

19 “Give me a blessing,” she answered. “Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me springs of water as well.” So Caleb gave her both the upper and lower springs.

20 This is the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Judah.

21 These were the southernmost cities of the tribe of Judah in the Negev toward the border of Edom: Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur,

22 Kinah, Dimonah, Adadah,

23 Kedesh, Hazor, Ithnan,

24 Ziph, Telem, Bealoth,

25 Hazor-hadattah, Kerioth-hezron (that is, Hazor),

26 Amam, Shema, Moladah,

27 Hazar-gaddah, Heshmon, Beth-pelet,

28 Hazar-shual, Beersheba, Biziothiah,

29 Baalah, Iim, Ezem,

30 Eltolad, Chesil, Hormah,

31 Ziklag, Madmannah, Sansannah,

32 Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain, and Rimmon—twenty-nine cities in all, along with their villages.

33 These were in the foothills: Eshtaol, Zorah, Ashnah,

34 Zanoah, En-gannim, Tappuah, Enam,

35 Jarmuth, Adullam, Socoh, Azekah,

36 Shaaraim, Adithaim, and Gederah (or Gederothaim)—fourteen cities, along with their villages.

37 Zenan, Hadashah, Migdal-gad,

38 Dilan, Mizpeh, Joktheel,

39 Lachish, Bozkath, Eglon,

40 Cabbon, Lahmas, Chitlish,

41 Gederoth, Beth-dagon, Naamah, and Makkedah—sixteen cities, along with their villages.

42 Libnah, Ether, Ashan,

43 Iphtah, Ashnah, Nezib,

44 Keilah, Achzib, and Mareshah—nine cities, along with their villages.

45 Ekron, with its towns and villages;

46 from Ekron to the sea, all the cities near Ashdod, along with their villages;

47 Ashdod, with its towns and villages; Gaza, with its towns and villages, as far as the Brook of Egypt and the coastline of the Great Sea.

48 These were in the hill country: Shamir, Jattir, Socoh,

49 Dannah, Kiriath-sannah (that is, Debir),

50 Anab, Eshtemoh, Anim,

51 Goshen, Holon, and Giloh—eleven cities, along with their villages.

52 Arab, Dumah, Eshan,

53 Janim, Beth-tappuah, Aphekah,

54 Humtah, Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), and Zior—nine cities, along with their villages.

55 Maon, Carmel, Ziph, Juttah,

56 Jezreel, Jokdeam, Zanoah,

57 Kain, Gibeah, and Timnah—ten cities, along with their villages.

58 Halhul, Beth-zur, Gedor,

59 Maarath, Beth-anoth, and Eltekon—six cities, along with their villages.

60 Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), and Rabbah—two cities, along with their villages.

61 These were in the wilderness: Beth-arabah, Middin, Secacah,

62 Nibshan, the City of Salt, and En-gedi—six cities, along with their villages.

63 But the descendants of Judah could not drive out the Jebusites living in Jerusalem. So to this day the Jebusites live there among the descendants of Judah.

1 ¶ [This] then was the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah by their families; [even] to the border of Edom the wilderness of Zin southward [was] the uttermost part of the south coast.

2 And their south border was from the shore of the salt sea, from the bay that looketh southward:

3 And it went out to the south side to Maalehacrabbim, and passed along to Zin, and ascended up on the south side unto Kadeshbarnea, and passed along to Hezron, and went up to Adar, and fetched a compass to Karkaa:

4 [From thence] it passed toward Azmon, and went out unto the river of Egypt; and the goings out of that coast were at the sea: this shall be your south coast.

5 And the east border [was] the salt sea, [even] unto the end of Jordan. And [their] border in the north quarter [was] from the bay of the sea at the uttermost part of Jordan:

6 And the border went up to Bethhogla, and passed along by the north of Betharabah; and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben:

7 And the border went up toward Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, looking toward Gilgal, that [is] before the going up to Adummim, which [is] on the south side of the river: and the border passed toward the waters of Enshemesh, and the goings out thereof were at Enrogel:

8 And the border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnom unto the south side of the Jebusite; the same [is] Jerusalem: and the border went up to the top of the mountain that [lieth] before the valley of Hinnom westward, which [is] at the end of the valley of the giants northward:

9 And the border was drawn from the top of the hill unto the fountain of the water of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of mount Ephron; and the border was drawn to Baalah, which [is] Kirjathjearim:

10 And the border compassed from Baalah westward unto mount Seir, and passed along unto the side of mount Jearim, which [is] Chesalon, on the north side, and went down to Bethshemesh, and passed on to Timnah:

11 And the border went out unto the side of Ekron northward: and the border was drawn to Shicron, and passed along to mount Baalah, and went out unto Jabneel; and the goings out of the border were at the sea.

12 And the west border [was] to the great sea, and the coast [thereof]. This [is] the coast of the children of Judah round about according to their families.

13 ¶ And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, [even] the city of Arba the father of Anak, which [city is] Hebron.

14 And Caleb drove thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.

15 And he went up thence to the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before [was] Kirjathsepher.

16 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

17 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

18 And it came to pass, as she came [unto him], that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted off [her] ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou?

19 Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.

20 ¶ This [is] the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families.

21 And the uttermost cities of the tribe of the children of Judah toward the coast of Edom southward were Kabzeel, and Eder, and Jagur,

22 And Kinah, and Dimonah, and Adadah,

23 And Kedesh, and Hazor, and Ithnan,

24 Ziph, and Telem, and Bealoth,

25 And Hazor, Hadattah, and Kerioth, [and] Hezron, which [is] Hazor,

26 Amam, and Shema, and Moladah,

27 And Hazargaddah, and Heshmon, and Bethpalet,

28 And Hazarshual, and Beersheba, and Bizjothjah,

29 Baalah, and Iim, and Azem,

30 And Eltolad, and Chesil, and Hormah,

31 And Ziklag, and Madmannah, and Sansannah,

32 And Lebaoth, and Shilhim, and Ain, and Rimmon: all the cities [are] twenty and nine, with their villages:

33 [And] in the valley, Eshtaol, and Zoreah, and Ashnah,

34 And Zanoah, and Engannim, Tappuah, and Enam,

35 Jarmuth, and Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah,

36 And Sharaim, and Adithaim, and Gederah, and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages:

37 Zenan, and Hadashah, and Migdalgad,

38 And Dilean, and Mizpeh, and Joktheel,

39 Lachish, and Bozkath, and Eglon,

40 And Cabbon, and Lahmam, and Kithlish,

41 And Gederoth, Bethdagon, and Naamah, and Makkedah; sixteen cities with their villages:

42 Libnah, and Ether, and Ashan,

43 And Jiphtah, and Ashnah, and Nezib,

44 And Keilah, and Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages:

45 Ekron, with her towns and her villages:

46 From Ekron even unto the sea, all that [lay] near Ashdod, with their villages:

47 Ashdod with her towns and her villages, Gaza with her towns and her villages, unto the river of Egypt, and the great sea, and the border [thereof]:

48 And in the mountains, Shamir, and Jattir, and Socoh,

49 And Dannah, and Kirjathsannah, which [is] Debir,

50 And Anab, and Eshtemoh, and Anim,

51 And Goshen, and Holon, and Giloh; eleven cities with their villages:

52 Arab, and Dumah, and Eshean,

53 And Janum, and Bethtappuah, and Aphekah,

54 And Humtah, and Kirjatharba, which [is] Hebron, and Zior; nine cities with their villages:

55 Maon, Carmel, and Ziph, and Juttah,

56 And Jezreel, and Jokdeam, and Zanoah,

57 Cain, Gibeah, and Timnah; ten cities with their villages:

58 Halhul, Bethzur, and Gedor,

59 And Maarath, and Bethanoth, and Eltekon; six cities with their villages:

60 Kirjathbaal, which [is] Kirjathjearim, and Rabbah; two cities with their villages:

61 In the wilderness, Betharabah, Middin, and Secacah,

62 And Nibshan, and the city of Salt, and Engedi; six cities with their villages.

63 As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out: but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.

1 The lot of the tribe of the children of Judah among their families was the border of Edom in the wilderness of Zin, which is on the south side, in the corner of the south country,

2 Their south borders were from the corner of the salt sea, that is, from the tongue that goeth toward the south,

3 And come out from thence up to Akrabbim, and pass through Zin; and go up from the south toward Kadeshbarnea; and pass through Hezron, and go up to Adar, and go about Karkaa;

4 And pass through Azmon, and come out unto the river of Egypt, that the end of the border may be the sea. And this shall be your border toward the south.

5 And the morning border is from the salt sea unto the end of Jordan. And the north border is from the tongue of the sea, which is at the place of Jordan,

6 And go up to Beth-hagla, and go on the north side to Beth-arabah, and come up to the stone of Bohen the son of Reuben;

7 And go up to Debir, from the valley of Achor, and from the midnight place that looketh toward Gilgal, which is over against Adumim, which lieth by the water from the south. And afterward she went unto the water of Enzhemesh, and came out unto the well of Rogel.

8 And she went up to the valley of the son of Hinnom on the side of the Jebusite, which dwelleth on the south side, which is Jerusalem: and she came up to the top of the mountain that lieth before the valley of Hinnom on the west side, which cometh to the corner of the valley of Raphaim on the north side.

9 Afterward it cometh down from the top of the same mountain unto the fountain of the waters of Nephthoah, and cometh out unto the cities of mount Ephron, and inclineth unto Baalah, which is Kiriathjearim;

10 And he turned round from Baalah toward the west to mount Seir, and went on the side of mount Jearim from the north, which is Chessalon, and came down to Bethshemesh, and passed through Timnah;

11 And he went out from the side of Ekron toward the north, and went toward Shicron: and he passed over mount Baalah, and came out to Jabneel; and the last of them was the sea.

12 And the border toward the west is the great sea. This is the border of the children of Judah round about in their families.

13 And to Caleb the son of Jephunneh shall be given his portion among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD Joshua, even Kiriath-arba, the father of Enak, which is Hebron.

14 And Caleb cast out from thence the three sons of Enak; Shesai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, born of Enak.

15 And he went up from thence unto the inhabitants of Debir. And the name of Debir in old time was Kiriath-sepher.

16 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-shepher, and taketh her, to him will I give my daughter Achsah to wife.

17 And Athniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's brother, took her, and gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

18 And it came to pass, when she was come in, that she was bidden to claim a field of her father's; and she fell down from off her ass. And Caleb said unto her, What is the matter with thee?

19 And she said, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land, give me also springs of water. So he gave her fountains above and below.

20 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah among their families.

21 And the cities of the tribe of the children of Judah, from one corner to another, by the border of Edom southward, were these: Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur,

22 Kina, Dimona, Ad-Ada,

23 Kedes, Hazor, Ithnan,

24 siph, telem, bealoth,

25 Hazor-hadata, Kirioth-hezron, that is Hazor,

26 Amam, Sema, Molada,

27 hazar-gadda, hesmon, beth-palet,

28 Hazar-Sual, Beer-Seba, Bisjoth-Ja,

29 Baala, Ijim, Azem,

30 EI-Tholad, Chesil, Horma,

31 Ziklag, Madmanna, Sansanna,

32 Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain, Rimon. These are twenty and nine cities and their villages.

33 And in the causes was Esthaol, Zarea, Asna,

34 Sanoah, En-Gannim, Thapuah, Enam, 35th Jarmuth, Adullam , Socho, Aseka,

36 Saaraim, Adithaim, Gedera, Gederothaim. These are fourteen cities and their villages.

37 Zenan, Hadasa, Migdal-Gad,

38 Dilean, Mizpe, Jakthiel,

39 Lachis, Bazekath, Eglon,

40 Chabon, Lahmam, Cithlis,

41 Gederoth, Beth-dagon, Naema, Makeda. These are sixteen cities and their villages.

42 Libna, Ether, Asan,

43 Jephthah, Asna, Nezib,

44 Kegila, Achsib, Marias. These are nine cities and their villages.

45 Ekron with her daughters and villages.

46 From Ekron even unto the sea, all that is near unto Ashdod, and their villages;

47 Ashdod with her daughters and her villages, Gaza with her daughters and her villages, unto the waters of Egypt. And the great sea is the border thereof.

48 And in the mountains was Samir, and Jattir, and Socho,

49 Danna, Kiriath-Sanna, this is Debir,

50 Anah, Esthemo, Anim,

51 Gosen, Holon, Gilo. That's eleven towns and their villages.

52 Arab, Duma, Esean,

53 Janum, Beth-Thapuah, Apheka,

54 Humta, Kiriath-Arba, that is Hebron, Zior. That is nine towns and their villages.

55 Maon, Carmel, Siph, Juta,

56 Jezreel, Jakdeam, Sanoah,

57 Kam, Gibeah, Thimnah. These are ten cities and their villages.

58 Halhul, Beth-Zur, Gedor,

59 Maarath, Beth-anoth, Elthekon. These are six cities and their villages.

60 Kiriath-baal, which is Kiriath-jearim, Harabba; two cities and their villages.

61 And in the wilderness was Beth-arabah, Middin, Sechachah,

62 Nibsan and the Salt City and Engeddi. These are six cities and their villages.

63 And the Jebusites dwelt at Jerusalem, and the children of Judah could not drive them out. So the Jebusites dwelt with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.
