Majority Standard Bible

1 For the choirmaster. To the tune of “The Lily of the Covenant.” A Miktam of David for instruction. When he fought Aram-naharaim and Aram-zobah, and Joab returned and struck down 12,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt. You have rejected us, O God; You have broken us; You have been angry; restore us!

2 You have shaken the land and torn it open. Heal its fractures, for it is quaking.

3 You have shown Your people hardship; we are staggered from the wine You made us drink.

4 You have raised a banner for those who fear You, that they may flee the bow. Selah

5 Respond and save us with Your right hand, that Your beloved may be delivered.

6 God has spoken from His sanctuary: “I will triumph! I will parcel out Shechem and apportion the Valley of Succoth.

7 Gilead is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim is My helmet, Judah is My scepter.

8 Moab is My washbasin; upon Edom I toss My sandal; over Philistia I shout in triumph.”

9 Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?

10 Have You not rejected us, O God? Will You no longer march out, O God, with our armies?

11 Give us aid against the enemy, for the help of man is worthless.

12 With God we will perform with valor, and He will trample our enemies.

KJV

1 ¶ To the chief Musician upon Shushaneduth, Michtam of David, to teach; when he strove with Aramnaharaim and with Aramzobah, when Joab returned, and smote of Edom in the valley of salt twelve thousand. O God, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased; O turn thyself to us again.

2 Thou hast made the earth to tremble; thou hast broken it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.

3 Thou hast shewed thy people hard things: thou hast made us to drink the wine of astonishment.

4 Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.

5 That thy beloved may be delivered; save [with] thy right hand, and hear me.

6 ¶ God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.

7 Gilead [is] mine, and Manasseh [is] mine; Ephraim also [is] the strength of mine head; Judah [is] my lawgiver;

8 Moab [is] my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe: Philistia, triumph thou because of me.

9 Who will bring me [into] the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?

10 [Wilt] not thou, O God, [which] hadst cast us off? and [thou], O God, [which] didst not go out with our armies?

11 Give us help from trouble: for vain [is] the help of man.

12 Through God we shall do valiantly: for he [it is that] shall tread down our enemies.

1545 Luther's English Bible (LED)

Prayer for the welfare of the people of Israel

1 a golden jewel of David, to sing before, to teach of a golden rosebush,

2 When he had fought with the Syrians of Mesopotamia, and with the Syrians of Zobah, Joab returned, and smote twelve thousand of the Edomites in the valley of salt.

3 O God, who hast cast us off and scattered us, and hast been angry with us, comfort us again.

4 Thou that hast moved the earth, and rent it asunder, heal the breaches thereof, which is so bruised.

5 For thou hast shown hardness unto thy people; thou hast given us a drink of wine, that we staggered.

6 But thou gavest a sign unto them that fear thee, which they lifted up, and made them safe. Sela.

7 That thy loved ones may be done, help now with thy right hand, and hear us.

8 God speaketh in his sanctuary, I am glad; and I will divide Shechem, and measure the valley of Shushoth.

9 Gilead is mine, Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is the power of my head; Judah is my prince,

10 Moab is my washing-pot; I stretch out my shoe over Edom; Philistia exults in me.

11 Who will lead me into a strong city? Who will lead me as far as Edom?

12 Wilt thou not do it, O GOD, which hast cast us off, and wilt thou not go forth, O GOD, upon our host?

13 Give us help in trouble: for help of man is no good.

14 With God we will do deeds. He will trample under our enemies.
